Stepping into the World of Live Wedding Painting: Your First Steps
Are you a budding artist with a passion for weddings and a desire to capture special moments in real-time? If so, stepping into the world of live wedding painting might be the perfect next move for you. While it can be an exciting and rewarding endeavor, it's essential to lay the groundwork for success from the start. Here are some essential first steps to consider:
Invest in Your Business:
Before you can start booking clients and painting live at weddings, you'll need to invest in your business. This includes things like setting up lead generation systems, creating professional business cards, and investing in quality art gear. Remember, you'll need to spend money to make money, so don't be afraid to invest in the tools and resources you need to succeed. You can find free resources to help you set up a basic website (like Wix.com), design professional brand design and posts (Canva.com), or build your email list Mailchimp.com! These are all things I used to start up my brand!
Establish Your Brand:
Building a brand that reflects your style and professionalism is crucial in the world of live wedding painting. Invest in professional photography to showcase your work and style effectively. Create a portfolio of your previous paintings and examples of your artistic style to give potential clients a glimpse of what you can offer. Your brand should convey trustworthiness, reliability, and excellence in your craft. If you haven’t done any “live paintings” yet or don’t have any examples of weddings you have painted, take some time to think about the type of client you want to attract. Is this person getting married in the hilly countryside with a beautiful sunset and cows in the distance? Is this person getting married in a grand church, in a mountainous landscape, in a Manor residence? etc. Create a painting of that “ideal client”, this can be used from a reference photo of the location, bride and groom, or you can “gift” this practice painting to a friend who has just gotten married, or from your own wedding photos. The point is, paint what you want to attract, and advertise it. Treat this practice painting as if you were at a wedding. Create a setup if you can, and see how long it would take you to paint at a wedding. Now you have a little experience on what to expect.
